As you may know now, Autodesk has joined forces with one of the top leading manufacturers of 3D scanning solutions Leica Geosystems. As of today, customers may bring their data directly from the P16 scanners into Autodesk ReCap, which opens the doors and streamlines the workflow into the brother design software portfolio of Autodesk.
Until now this was only available for the x130 and the x330 Faro scanners, including the 5010c scanner from Z+F. Now Autodesk adds one more manufacturer to the list, and scan file conversion is no longer required for the P16 Leica terrestrial 3D laser scanners.
“By pairing these solutions with Autodesk’s industry-leading software packages for CAD and BIM, customers will have easy access to accurate, high-quality data at every stage of construction, which provides benefits to all stakeholders" says Amar Hanspal, Autodesk Senior VP.
More on the Reality Capture collaboration with Leica can be seen on this page.
To have a better understanding of how this so-called "point cloud" data looks like, and how easy has become today to work with this type of scan files, I encourage you to watch this short video. From there on this data is entirely compatible with the rest of the Autodesk products.
